For a single glorious moment, time just stopped.
1 in 100 – My Apprenticeship to Become an Artist
In 2009, I set myself a simple, stubborn challenge: paint 100 paintings, each carrying a story. Some are true — drawn from childhood memory — and others are stitched together from nostalgia and invention. Together, they become an archive of growing up in the late 1970s and early 1980s New Zealand, where ordinary moments can still glow with meaning. What began as a goal has turned into a twenty-year apprenticeship: learning to see, to compose, to tell stories through paint — and to let colour speak clearly when words fall short.
